When we designed the original artmsr.com, it seemed obvious (to me) to base groups by style since I work in several. This also marked my first formal foray into presenting my art to the public.
Years later, this thinking has become less attractive, especially with the addition of early works (Mickey Moon Gallery), the Archives (work done more than five years ago), and the ever-growing Other group.
Traipsing around the web, one can find thousands of creative and possibly effective ways of presenting collections. Artists might go by theme (landscape, portraits, etc.), current series, current work, whatever, rarely showing all of their work. Some more generic market sites tend to be practical—size, primary color or price range.
For my own edification and yours, I like to present all of my art practice. It’s then possible to see trends and evolution. Since part of the focus with our presentation is to encourage sales, the latest thought is to remove the galleries ordered by style and simply arrange things to a chronological order. The “New Works” monthly feature on the home page will remain.
This is of course a massive undertaking. Fortunately, the “lackey” (aka known as Mr. Mickey, my talented techie partner who refuses to be a CEO) is willing to take the time and energy to develop this change.
The Mickey Moon Gallery will remain whole, since it represents beginnings in formal art practice. The Archives will be absorbed along with Geometric, Painterly, Fantasy/Narrative, Minimalist, and Other.
What do you think? Will it be easier to locate what you’re looking for? Me and The Lackey remain open to ideas, for awhile. Thank you.
